Help me please.

I have had to have my 3rd left home with the AA in as many months.

Was driving around in the kent sunshine this afternoon, got the a roundabout went to change gear. Nothing!!!!!!

Turned off the engine then could engage any gear but could not change up or down????

The AA towed me home AGAIN

So spent the last 2 hours taken out my engine to find this.

Been speaking to "clyde" who then spook to "gadget" who both think that my release shaft is fooked. I'm sure that the release bearing should be centre with the shaft???

The shaft moves from L 2 R by about 1/2 "

Anyone changed one??? any help would be great!!

please :( :(

I didn't change my shaft but changed the bearing last week. The side that has the bush (left in your pic) has a screw on the outside of the gear box which if you undo lets you slide the whole shaft to the left until the right-hand side comes out of its housing to enable you to remove it...

I think this is described fairly well in the Haynes manual...

Yes the transaxle shaft should be centred in the release bearing. Has the screw which holds the release shaft in come loose/been removed?

NB. I'm talking from what I've read noticed on mine in the last week, no further knowledge that that!!

exactly what I was thinking..... everything in the pic is looking straight just off centre and that screw holds it all central....

yes i have replaced mine and it is as descirbed above...however If you need to remove it you will need to remove the arm from the shaft to do this. This is a nightmare most of the time but occasionally it will come off easily.

hopefully you can get away with popping it back in and putting the grub screw back in (use a bit of loctite or similar to prevent re-occurance) so you can avoid having to remove the arm at all.

Cheers chaps, I have had to order a new shaft as the bottom LHS fork has been worn badly, i think thats why i had to replace my release bearing last month

So a complete kit, shaft and bearing is on it's way to me.

Cheers for you help and advice, could really get some kind of advice about getting the shaft out ;) ;) ;)

Your shaft was moving about because the circlip behind the lhs bearing was either missing or has slipped off. When you refit the shaft, make sure you put the circlip on carefully. Don't weaken it by using screwdrivers etc - use proper pliers.

Cheers BJ1,
I'm almost at the piont of pulling all my hair out :x :x :x

Spent a while trying to get the new shaft in, half built in up with circlips and rubber bushs etc only to find that Heritage has sent me the wrong one  :x

Spent over 45 mins on the phone trying everyone i could think off to send me one and everyone was out of stock or on back order

Should be sorted i hope, Magabug is getting me one sent over form BBT. Wish me luck or Plymfest will not be happening at the weekend.
