Me and the Mrs are looking at heading down to cornwall in june, want to stay near a beach, any suggestions as to where we should head and what to expect, been down there couple of times only seen Newquay though, would like somewhere little prettier, although nothing against Newquay, any suggestions great thanks for now D..... ;)

Polzeath is nice, not much in the town itself but its a pretty area with some good beachs and walks around to Rock/Padstow.
Tristram is the site to stay in, not the cheapest but it's right on the side of the bay overlooking the beach and generally you can pull up where you like in the camping field. It does get busy though during peak season.....but I guess that's true of anywhere these days.

We are heading to cornwall Friday 4th June for two weeks of camping in our van and some surf if the summer waves are kind to us!!!!

Do you have a area that you want to go to? If you want to be near Newquay and Watergate bay then we stay at Porth beach campsite and it's right next to the beach 1 minute walk!!!! This site gives you newquay if you want the comercial resort or beach days at Porth beach/watergate bay for some surf and long walks on the beach.

depends on what you want from your visit as there are so many great places to go!!!!

These are the sort of suggestions im looking for, want a bit of insight to diff areas and what they offer.Prob gonna move about a little as well.

I agreed with giraffeinbath Polzeath is a top place, I've been going there for years and Tristram is a great site, but you will need to book in the summer. There's also great surf school 'Surf's Up' [[email protected]], if you need it, they got all three of my kids standing up in the first 2 hour lesson!

We stay at a campsite in St Merryn - Higher Harlyn Park, I've been there for the past 4 years and my fiancee has been there for many years...and worked there for a couple of summers. Really nice site with good facilities.

It's about a 10 minute walk from Harlyn Beach and you have Constantine, Booby's Bay & Treyarnon within a 5 minute drive or a walk around the headland.

We stayed in statics when we went (before getting the van), but are taking the old girl down there this year.

Try south coast as well, around Portscatho, very rural, but very nice too....

Cheers,

James

we like Trebarwith Strand and camped this year overlooking the sea just outside Boscastle. Great

One thing is if you have a dog, beach selection is all important !

some of these places look great, thinking going down as far as Lands End,anyone ventured down there ?

We stayed at Gwithean farm, Hayle last year real nice campsite with pub across the road.10 min walk to beach with board & wet suit hire & nice cafe.In hayle you can get the train to St Ives easier than trying to park unless you get there early. Also its not far from Lands End, get there early to miss the coach`s full of the blue rinse briggade.Padstow`s good if only for Stein`s chippy well worth the money. Its all nice if the weather`s good. We`re off down to St Ives again this year, the beach`s are good for the little un even have entertainers with punch & judy etc. Also if you go for a drive take the coast road tight in places but fantastic veiws and you`ll find some real nice little pubs and villages. ;)

This is starting to sound great, thanks for pointers now getting much better ideas as to where to head thanks to you guys !

Interesting stuff, as we're planning to come over to Britain in August and drive along the south coast to Devon/Cornwall. How is the weather usually in August?

Hi All,

Just been reading the Cornwall Camping threads with interest. Ive just put a deposit on a 69 tintop and am looking at touring Cornwall this summer. Im at an advantage as I already live in Penzance - just 10miles from Lands End. If you ever get the chance its well worth coming right to the end of the Country. Porthcurno is my local beach and on a good day is as good as any beach in the world, quite often you can swim with Basking sharks there. Just around the corner is Sennen (great surfing beach) but can get a touch busy. Hard core surfers will love Gwenver just around the corner from Sennen - have a look on yosurfer.com for more info. Theres plenty of camp sites near lands end too, send me a PM if you are heading down.

cheers
