Having stripped my CV joints (not on purpose) I have put them back together and will be refitting to the van tomorrow. The service manual states that I should remove and discard the dished washer and not replace. Chapter 6 To install para 4. Why?

Sometimes if you leave the washer on. The circlip will not "set in" as it should. Then, if it comes off. you have a loose circlip floating in your CV.

I've got mine to do and am in two minds whether to fit the new washer.

As you say, Haynes say leave off but then all kits come with them and VW must gave fitted them for a reason ?

I hadn't realised that the washer was dished, if / when refitting which way wound should they go ? Is the raised centre facing the cv joint (ie outwards) or away from it ?

Cheers

My understanding is that VW removed them after a certain date and as such the advice to not refit was given.
