I did a sportive in the Forest of Dean yesterday - two punctures due the awful roads out there, and then I missed the signs and got totally lost ... :roll:

I did just over the 100km though and an extra 500ft of climbing - 5200 ft in total. At least the sun was out :lol:

Found out today I've got Commonwealth Games tickets for the track racing next summer, well chuffed seeing as I missed out with the Olympics!

hi all,i have been accused by my wife of not using the camper enough in favour of cycling this year! ive done over 2500 miles on a road bike compared to a 1000 or so in the camper.
I think i need to invest in a decent bike rack and combine the two hobbys.

Hello to all, I am pretty new to the site so I thought I would chime in. I do a bit of both mountain and road biking. My current rides are a GT LTS-1 for the dirt and a Bianchi Vigorelli for the road. I am also in the process of building a 1983 Specialized Stumpjumper for a town/fun bike. Just need to build a bike rack for the single cab and I will be all set.

I do a bit of each mountain biking and the dark side (road) :msn4: was out yesterday did 44 road miles out for an hour tomorrow on the road bike again and mountain bike on Sunday another hour. Tuesday is off road night all year round but need some new lights for this winter. Bikes are now loads of years old and worn out SC Blur, Trek H/T and Madone need to find some cash and buy a new one .... :lol: Oh heading off to Coed Y Brenin in November for a week 8)

Also did some good foreign trips in the past Alps, Portugal, Spain, Morocco ... but that was in a former life before wife, child and camper van :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

I picked up a couple of solar storm x2 lights. Cheap as chips and brighter than my exposures which cost a fortune. I ride 3 night rides a week. And one decent ride on my day off

I currently ride a Giant TCR Comp 1. Full carbon road bike which is just so comfortable. I work on the edge of the Cotswolds and try to get out for between 10-12 miles during my lunch hour. It gives me enough time to get showered and back to work. Also cycle with a club on 1 or 2 Saturdays of each month.
Club cycling is new to me, I would recommend it, always nice to be out in a group.

got a Boardman CX-team a few months ago. I used to MTB downhill competitively many years ago, have been to Marin a few times and done MT Tam the wrong way (uphill). Had to upgrade the wheels on the bike as I was too heavy, found the weight is dropping off again using a Turbo trainer with the bike inside and got a good set of Mavic wheels for the road. As i'm on the north coast there are long off-road walking paths above the cliffs overlooking the Giants Causeway, I cant describe the views. The bike can handle them no problems. I do about 8-10 miles every morning.

Road bike is a Trek 2.1 fitted with tri bars currently on a turbo trainer. MTB is a Specialised Carve which is also used as my commuting bike in the winter.

This is my bike, i gave up powerlifting when my knees took a bit of a battering from heavy squats, now trying to condition them back to health, and introduce some cardio into my life. I used to love to be out on the bikes years ago, but since we moved to Ashford in kent it is so flat i thought rather than ignore riding, i would embrace the flatness. I like my bike.

This is my other ride, for when i want to commute to my workshop which is about 4 miles or so from home. its a slow sit up and beg machine with one gear so it forces me to chill out.

this is my road bike...bought the carbon frame in an Evans blowout and built myself even the internal cables...and got my son to index it...I love it to bits and am up to 80 miles a week,2 rides rain or shine...[read rain]

I currently have a nice Giant mountain bike but am keen to get a decent road bike.

I am looking at the following;

Felt F85
Mekk Poggio
Specialised Allez elite
Giant Defy 1

Am I looking at decent bikes or can anyone give me some pointers?

The specialised and giant are both considers entry level albeit very good entry level bikes. I have a a defy as you will see in the first post on this thread.
I have nothing to compare it with but I can say that 10mile each way commute on it is fine. I cover a good mixture of gradients as it B roads all the way.

Hope that helps, I'm sure more experienced riders such as Clem and the like can tell you more

curly head - all those you've mentioned are good bikes and similar spec, of the four I'd head towards the Specialized. I can't fully justify why, just my gut reaction really - well established brand, well specced, good value.

Looking at the sort of budget you're in , id recommend looking at a full carbon from Dolan bikes .... comfortably under a grand for a Sora or Tiaga group set and they ride wonderfully.

89Rallye - my MTB is an old Zaskar LE ... great fun! I haven't actually been off road for years though



I've been stuck on the turbo since December after I was knocked off going to work - dislocated shoulder! :evil: Im just about ready to start out again, but am waiting for a dry day :roll: Ive a new Colnago Ace Ultegra waiting for me! :mrgreen:
