Dash heater levers

Quick question for ya
What is the best way to remove the little plastic stud that holds the heater lever to the heater arms. Just skinned my wrist trying but seems no easy way without breaking them.

This should help. One of those fiddly jobs where you wish your kids had skills with tools.
