In view of the tanker men going on strike are you going to fill up your 40 + year old tank?
I would never fill mine past half
let alone the price :shock:

?

As it happens (and a rare occurrence for me) I'd mostly filled the tank in my bus the other week, so it is on standby for use as my daily, should the need arise. :D
My daily is running low on diesel, but I wasn't going to join the queues that I'd noticed starting to build. One garage had sold out of diesel.

TBH any kind of 'panic buying' now is ridiculous.. the tanker drivers have agreed to strike - they haven't said when they are going to do it and by law they need to give 7 days notice......

so why would you go out and buy fuel today? you'll have used it all by the time they actually do strike!!!

I was nealy empty in the daily so went to the petrol stn on the way home just now and had to que at 9.00pm to get to the pump then find out petrol was 136.9p per litre.
Need to do the pick up over the weekend and just done the camper a few days ago.
I've got more money invested in petrol than I got in the bank.

Just got in after waiting in a ridiculous queue for fuel.
I upset a right knob while paying, he happened to mention the fact that he had spent his last £5.41 on petrol so he could get to work, and how awful it was that the tanker drivers were going on strike.
I said that the drivers had to legally give 7 days notice of strike action, and that he could do something radical like cycle or even catch the bus to work, whereas I'd find it rather difficult to do either and my fuel gauge was reading empty which is why I was there instead of resorting to panic buying.
Funnily enough, not many people in the queue would make eye contact with me after that......

Weird cos I made the same comment to the lady behind the counter, I'm here cos I need petrol and some milk.
And she just growled at me.
Bridgwater women I ask you.

Oh for petrol that cheap! There are 3 petrol stations within 10 miles of my house - the cheapest is 147.9

I bike to work so the only fuel I need is bacon sandwiches and tea!

Me too (other than working overtimes at other sites). It was a different story during the strike of 2000 though!

Simply make the minimum purchase for fuel for cars £20 no matter how much you put in below this and the queues might get shorter  - guy in our office was phoning round mates to find out where still had fuel and left early to fill up.....he had 3/4 of a tank and we had to explain that if he filled up every day rather than his usual once a week then of course there would be queues....

What's annoying is that the potential strike isn't even about fuel prices but pay/h&s/benefits (which he didn't know) and that there wasn't even a strike date (again, news to him!) - I'm sure some people just read headlines, tomorrow I'm going to try to sell him some magic beans :D

I was a field engineer in 2000 - spent most of the day getting sent all over the place on rumours of diesel by the service desk

Other firms were hiring cars as the T&C's from the fleet company meant they had to be delivered with a full tank ;)

Typical timing, im off to Belgium this weekend (all be in in the Golf),
Lets hope the french and belgians dont join the brits aswell!

Its about time something is done, maybe they will coinsite the strike with Easter? just to really screw everything up

filled my bus yesterday cos towing the race beep to shaky ,just hope we can fill the jerry can with super unleaded  (£40)cos there aint much in the race beep

Wife's on night shifts at the mo and said there were still queues at the station at 2am!

At least if there is a strike the fuel won't run out, at this rate all the cars will be full before they all come out!

Certain it will be - nothing like a Union to coincide a strike with public holidays and blackmail the employers even more

Do we need militant unions anymore? Wasn't it all about defending workers from dangerous and unfair practices? Might be just the high profile ones but I now only see unions striking for pay & benefits? (tube drivers, tanker drivers, firemen, teachers e.t.c.)

... or from unscrupulous employers (i.e. government) cutting benefits/pensions after years of contributions (because they messed up with the bankers but want the ordinary working person to take the hit) ...
