Over the last few months my points have needed constant adjustment and today i think I've discovered why when resetting the points again the Securing screw wouldn't tighten and has pulled the thread out
So my question is what's my best option?
thanks paul

Tap the thread a bigger size but you will also have to enlarge the hole in baseplate of points to accept the larger screw.I have had to do this before to solve this problem.

brilliant thanks
how does the distributor come apart so i can re tap the thread?
thanks paul

You dont need to take dizzy apart. Remove points and you will see the screw hole. Choose a screw that you are going to use and get the correct tap and coat it with grease and any swarf will stick to tap. I removed dizzy and did the job with dizzy up side down. You might get a minute bit of swarf going into dizzy but nothing that will do any damage.

Also remember if the top plates moved with the vacume then the screw passes through a slot in the plate directly below and you'll want to dismantle and enlarge or you may find new larger machine screw binds which renders vacume advance useless

Dizzy are easy to rebuild and re-shim, allow an evening start to finish
