This is a picture of where the pipes have come away from each other, horrible rusted hole can be seen. What are my options here folks? go for a whole new exhaust set up or attempt to patch this up for now? Heat exchangers none too clever either.

And the heat exchanger, left side:

Hi!

Well looks like you need a new header, not too much that you can do with that hole, the rest of the system looks quite rusty too,, as for the heat exchangers, as long as the outer isn't rusted through, maybe a clean up and repaint would do the job?
If you do change it, i have a system for sale if you are interested?

I agree with aogrady. New header and clean and paint heat exchangers if not rusted through.
If you intend keeping the vehicle for some time then the extra cost of a stainless system makes sense.

snowblind,
If you are going down the stainless route have a look at http://www.bluebird-type2.co.uk/split%20bay%20exhaust%201500%20up.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; They do a very good original exhaust system (third one down). I have just bought one for mine, and will post pictures once fitted.

:D
