Back to the pics of the dizzy, that doesn't look like where mine is at No 1 TDC (but I'm running an SVDA and that looks like an 009). Are you sure it's lined up to the notch on the dizzy body? (And the pully lined up to the TDC mark). You need No. 1 on TDC for the right adjustment. If you are not sure about the pully marks, then it's a case of finding TDC using methods mentioned on other threads on here (I use a chopstick :)).

Cheers,
Nick

I thought that too nick regarding rotor arm and mark on dizzy, I have the same set up as u nick not the 009 like in pic , number one is back right and the rotor arm in the pic is pointing to number two ..

If you look where the leads are in the very first post, you can see he's right when he gets to postioning engine to set No.1 gaps. which he then correctly pictures.

Did you have to move any more than a fraction of a turn? If yes, then when you re-set them, check that a rod or two haven't come out of the cups on the rockers.

i had to adjust no1 and one was quite tight on no4
But how much? More than 1/4 turn and I'd guess you were setting the wrong valve for the engine position. If only slightly, chances are you did it correctly but there's another reason for that god-awful noise.

The adjusters should all have a similar amount of thread sticking out - if any are very different, look at these for your problem.

yeah bit more than a 1/4 but the metallic knocking noise did go then when i went and adjusted it again the engine just wont start.....my camera did make it sound worse than it was though

:(
