Is it an easy job to switch between RHD & LHD headlamps for driving round Europe? What I mean is, can I take some LHD headlamps with me and then change them over on the ferry/in the chunnel on the way across? Is it a simple matter of removing the lights, removing the bowl and replacing with the LHD set?

Or am I missing something? :?

Why not just put those stickers over the glass to redirect the beam, it's a lot easier and saves carrying a spare set of beams.

To be honest most people don't seem to bother these days when popping abroad for a short period. I never have and never stopped.

My plans are for driving round Europe for 3 or 4 months next summer so it will be a little longer than short term, would probably change before I set off (so dont know why I questioned changing on ferry?). Do the sticky patches to change the beam reduce the already poor level of light?

If I were going for that length of time, I'd fit some lhd units before I set off, and use some tape (or not) for the journey to the ferry.
If you fit lights on the roadside or ferry they may not end up being set up very well.

What part of the headlamp dictates the beam pattern and therefore LHD or RHD, is it simply the bowl?

I think its the lens on the front that changes the way the light falls, think the bowls themselves are the same
