hello guys.. dropped the front end on ajusters.... (ball joint). iv noticed the anti roll bar is only an inch off the floor..as i have up graded the shocks to can i take it off? iv noticed that on slamworks exc they leave them off? what ya recon guys? lets hear ur thoughts. thanks Dan

take it off and throw it in the scrap bin, they dont do anything on a lowered bus other than collect things on the road.

Mine was taken off when lowered last year.

Its amazing all the useless crap VW used to put on their cars isn't it?

Fortunately, far more intelligent and experienced people have since found, through talking with mates and running the vehicles for a while (several months at least), that their VW's run fine or even better without all the crap VW used to bolt onto them.

My mate has an 009 dissy, half the tinware missing, an aftermarket vaneless fan housing, no thermostat and flaps, no heat exchangers, no anti roll bar, alloy wheels on a narrowed beam fitted with "smart" tyres etc etc and as a result of all the weight saving he reckons he gets 45 MPG and 0-60 in 9 secs on the local airfield (the only place flat enough to drive his slammed bug). Its deffo ok to do this because he has had the car for ages (3 months at least) and has driven it to at least 2 shows.

I reckon VW were forced to bolt all the extra stuff on by the German government who were trying to get rid of an excess of metal and components.

This had the added benefit of increasing the price of the cars so that reduced sales volumes meant the factory did not have to run extra night shifts. ;)

As usual he's right........not that I run one

They do make a difference, simple, but on a lowered bus they also tend to scrape the floor.

The best solution is to raise the bus back up, however if you are in the lowered bus fraternity then you can take it off.

I have driven to a few shows without one (30,000 miles over 10 years) and thus far have had no problems, your MOT guy may notice the lack of one though. I did once fit one with extra washers at the spindle end which raised it a lot but it still decided to try to bury it self in a camping field in South Wales.

Don't argue with Tricky2, as he anoyingly knows what he is talking about but on the other hand I didn't always do what I was told as a child.......adult.

I ran our split bus with a BJ beam for a while with one and then fitted dropped spindles and a narrowed beam and it lost a lot of roll stiffness - rubbed the arches something rotten and the bus seamed to wander about making it unnerving to drive so I narrowed the ARB and put it back on. Its much better now.

from memory they are possible to reverse fit - ie upside down so they don't sit so low....

Bobley I'm running a 60mm narrowed beam how did you narrow yours [metalurgists [sp] replies aware of course ;) ]

I took a BJ bay beam off another bus and that has the ARB on upside down.

My ARB was a bit of an experiment. I cut it and welded the middle and then sleeved it and welded the sleeve too. Now I know it works I may get a new one made to suit.

I'm not sure why lowered buses shouldn't need ARBs? Caterham R400s and Lotus Exiges are much lower and they bother had ARBs front and rear.

cool thx for replying -arb is important - as mine is onlt mildly narrowed I may get away with bending the ends in - I'll see. I have a contact in a forgery who could make some but it was a minimum order kind of deal......
