just returned home from a weekend away 8)
my boyfriend has been to Elan valley a few times and said its one of his fave places, as its his birthday this week thought would be a ideal time to go.
went to the camp site he`s always stayed at (fforest fields), really cannot recommend this place enough! (13 miles from Elan Valley)

lovely site, really clean, decent showers, and loos (they are a must if you are to get me camping in a tent :lol: )
pitches were a really good size, electric hook ups if needed.
tents, caravans and campers were there,
family friendly place, well behaved children and dogs allowed :mrgreen:
they even had a fridge in the office with suplies, bacon, milk etc, and just put your money in the honesty box

for anyone interested this is their website

Have a look here for the Red Kites http://www.gigrin.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
This is fairly local for me one of my old training rides used to go around the dams, we've had a bit of rain since June so you may be lucky and see the water coming over the Dams, it's even more impressive then.

heres a link for visitor centre

yeah the dams were quiet low in june, still very pretty
..we drove to Aberystwyth to watch the sunset on the friday night, was about 50 miles away, felt like it too forever on the mountain roads to get there, but was lovely, and because we`d already driven from east of england what was 50 miles more to go to the other side of the uk lol there were random campers stopped in laybys on way back to camp
