engin hatch question

hi iv brought a really good solid engin hatch got it a few monthes ago now the van is nearly ready painted it then went to put it on today and it dont fit it is off a early bay but as mine is a 68 why is this different
 
hi the hinges are fine and so is the width but its the lenth its about 3 inch too long will add some pics tomorow
 
right iv measered it and its about 32mm too long in the lenth :( :( any ideas :?
 
like the_troupster said it sounds like you have a splitty lid. look similar but are longer (deeper)
 
shoot :x looks like i need to get a good one for mine and the splitty one well it looks like its going on ebay thanks for your help
 
Dont know if you've got a copy, but theres a custom bay in this months VW Ultra that has got a splittie hatch, so the owner could mount the bumper lower for a better lowered look. Dont know if that kind of thing would interest you?....

thanks again for your advice much needed belive me sounds too hard to me as im a beginer at restoring vans as this is my first one as its allmost done now will try to source another one to go straight on thanks kev ps its on ebay now
