Engine ‘cough’

Hi. I have a standard 1600 with vacuum. Starts good and ticks over lovely but if you go for a sharp throttle press it fully dies if you let it. Lift off and ticks over fine. Gentle acceleration is ok, just a quicker press can kill it. Standard points and condenser, fairly recently replaced & set up.
Any ideas please?

My guess would be not enough’squirt’ from the carburettor. Either a blocked jet, or the settings for the small diaphragm being wrong. Depends on what carb u have fitted. I’d suggest a clean of the jets in first instance, buy a kit and take an hour or two to dismantle and reassemble. if your using E10 petrol then you might find some strange elastic band deposits in there.
