Evening All
Neither myself or Mr Dark Star know anything about engines….so please bear with me.
Had a refurbished gear box fitted earlier this year. All seemed wonderful, less stirring of custard, more actually finding a gear. This may not be relevant to the following issue…
Our 1970 t2 dormobile has the original engine as far as we know. It’s been fine ( slow but ok) until this year. Drove usual 7 hours ( with stops to campsite, all ok) but then….
Had a very long 11 hour trip home in August due to extra traffic ( rail strike, exceptional hot weather etc.) Did stop for breaks to give it chance to rest. Should have been much shorter journey though …Started playing up after about half an hour when we hit incredibly slow roadworks…
It began to stall a lot when we had to pause or slow down in heavy traffic or change gear.
It did not like starting up again either. Never had this issue with the van before. (Did with v elderly car decades ago & had to rev it a lot to prevent stalling. Advised Mr Dark Star to rev it. This worked & we limped home).
Our trusty mechanic had a look but is not an aircooled expert. He’s not sure what to suggest.
Engine just does not sound right anymore, along with constant stalling..
Could anyone recommend an engine expert in Sussex or Kent ( we’re about half hour from Tunbridge Wells Kent) to look at it please?
Not happy driving it so either someone to come & prod it or move it on a low loader/ trailer type thingy.
Hoping we’re not looking at a new engine!
Many thanks
