I have a four into one system on my 71 1600 tp at the moment with a silencer in need of replacement, not sure of make. I have a choice of getting a silencer made up to fit the manifold or fitting a standard replacement system I already have will I notice much difference in the van between the two?

If its a stock 1600TP on a single stock carb you will probably get better performance from a stock exhaust as it will be giving the correct back pressure.
