I've fitted a new exhaust to the van. Had achell of a job with those thin metal clamps that connect the exhaust to the heat riser bit. The gap is almost too big for the clamp - does anyone know if you can get wider clamps from anywhere as I think it's blowing a bit.

Cheers

I just fitted a kit from GSF a few weeks ago and it was SHITE!! The clamps for the J-tubes to the back box were a 1 piece affair with a flat piece opposite the clamping end (if you get what I mean) and when trying to nip both ends together with the gasket in it just kept popping off the flange
I beat shit out of them to make them round and they are both blowing a little too!!
My kingdom for some good old two piece clamps which actually work!!!

Rant over

Where in Durham you at buddy?

In good old Spennymoor.

Yes I think the aftermarket exhausts are utterly rubbish in terms of fit - might use some exhaust sealer round the seals and see if that makes a difference!! :x :x

German made and good quality!

It's the exhaust to heat exchanger clamp that's isn't wide enough - this one - need something wider

I didn't use mine, I'll dig them out and you can have them for nowt and try them. Just need to find where I clashed the box when I lost me blob

Thanks Bertiebus - I've got the standard clamps but they don't properly fit the gap between the exhaust and heat exchanger thingy so I'm looking for something wider - Im searching eBay now!!

If you can't find any to fit, could you fit a small section of the corrugated aluminum or stainless tube?

I don't have an exhaust with those fittings on, but I know I had exactly the same issue on my old beetle but never resolved it.

this kind of thing? have not checked for pipe sizes but there are permutations on this theme from exhaust parts suppliers

I always had a problem getting those things to fit. In a rather expensive solution I just fitted a vintage speed exhaust and it is so much easier! No heater pods so the outlets on the fan just go straight to the heat exchangers.

Ha small world, I work in Ferryhill

Us durham lot are slowly taking over EB

I used tin cans. Take both ends off, cut down the seam, wrap round the gap and fix into place with them metal tie straps. It does a lovely job.
