You cant beat a big ol engine

Thats me just in!!! Started early this morning and worked thru all day.......im gonna sleep well!!!

Had to refit old engine and im working inside now at a top mans workshop!!! Getting some stuff fabricated while i fit/sort out the rest of the stuff.
Slight set back today as i found thr recon box ive bought wont select gears.
Removed nose cone and think have sorted the problem....will know more tomoz once ive refitted it to the bus.

make sure and break it in ive heard some horry stories about 2 guys who caned theirs and blew them both.

Its been run up but yes i will run it in as soon as its done

Yesterday was a long day......up at 7am and in at midnight!!

Had a few probs with a recon g/box that id bought off the internet.....wont name the forum..........no 3rd or 4th gear....

After spending most of today trying to sort the damn thing ive spoken to cogbox who will sort it and mean time ive another box to fit.

Then the fun begins......hopefully will be sorted by wkend if all goes to plan. :D

Well....what a week!!!

I've driven 700 miles so far as ive my bay is in a workshop not close to me and im driving up there everyday.
Been working long hrs and even saturday to try to speed things along.
The gearbox i bought was no good so for now ive fitted a later secondhand one.
Engine is in but theres been alot of fabrication done and i mean alot!! This is because the support bar wont fit with a fully merged header.
The mounting hangers have been cut and moved forward slightly. The engine support bar as been severely modified to clear the oil pump and exhaust.
All wiring is done.
Fuel pump/regulator and hoses fitted.
Tomorrow ive to fit the support bar then the exhaust, oil cooler, oil filter, lines and then cut and reweld the back box as this wont fit at the mo....
Got the oil that was recommended. 10 litres = £85 and thats with 25% off.
Will keep you posted and yes ive more pics to come :D

Looking forward to seeing this beast run :D

:D She's up and running!! :D

Hopefully ill sort out a few bits and have her on the road at weekend 8)

nice work doood! 8)
 Its been an eye opener and theres been plenty of head scratching to over come some of the fitment issues.
Tomorrow it gets its first road test :)

Running in the engine at mo.........keeping below 4,000 rpm but man it shifts!!

Turns heads as the Empi Phatboy muffler growls at ya

Hopefully will be at the Retro show to try it out

Thank you Paul 'Botch' Venors for the use of your workshop and all the fabrication you've done on my bus. :D

As my new engine arrived i realised i'd need some alterations to my engine support bar, exhaust, oil cooler etc. The other funny thing was when he asked about who built the engine, he'd only been talking to the engine builder a few weeks before about it!

After speaking to Paul and explaining to him my problems he got me to take my bus for him to check out. I took my tools and did the mechanical jobs while Paul carried out the fabrication tasks.

What a top guy! 8) He already had a weeks work booked in but managed to carry out those jobs while working on mine too. This ended up in long hrs spent for a few days. The bus was with him for a week. Tuesday being the longest day having started at 9.30am and putting down the tools at 2.15am!!!!

An example of how much respect i have for Paul is last Saturday - for those who dont know....Paul is Santa Pods main commentator. He is busy at race meeting every weekend. He also does many voice overs and video work for Men & Motors, Motors TV etc........
He's hasn't a weekend off until September and last Saturday was his first dayoff for weeks. Instead of putting his feet up, he opened up his workshop and we worked on my bus all day.

So glad to have the use of his workshop especially with the bad weather we've had!

Plenty of tea and coffee was drunk as some of the days we seemed to be working backwards, what with having a recon box that i bought that wouldn't select 3rd/4th gears.

There was plenty of head scratching too when it came to fabricating the engine support bar. Loads of measuring, making templates etc. Pauls machining/welding skills are mind blowing.
You only have to walk into his workshop and look up to see his old drag racer rail to appreciate his handy work.

What i can say is......he loves egg rolls/sandwiches but make sure you watch where he puts them As last week he was given a roll, he puts it down somewhere safe and looses it 3 of us spent 30 mins looking for it...eventually i found it on top of the welder that we'd been walking passed for ages hahaha....... :?
Also if you turn up with biscuits as i did.....remember before you go home to put them away somewhere safe as the next morning we'd found the biscuits had been nibbled by the local mice
One last thing we've learnt.......if you cant find a particular tool..... firstly check the area around you as 9/10 its not far away. I cant remember how many times we put a tool down....then couldnt find it.......hunt around and eventually find it close to where we were in the first place.

So thanks again 'Botch' for the help you gave me, the laughs, ye old stories you told and the one off quotes you said
Oh and he listens to Radio 2. I never really listened to it before but i have to say its good! (never thought id say that). The difference in music and DJ's is a breath of fresh air as many other stations keep playing the same old 10 songs over and over again!

While im saying my thanks, i must also say thank you to Brett (StumpyVdub). :D
He came down on Saturday (in his lovely works van) and spent the day re-wiring the engine bay for me. Top job and i highly recommend him to you all!!!

I will post a few pics....

Cheers

MD

Awesome dude.

Glad to see all the money and time you put into it has eventually paid off

Can't wait to see it on the strip
