Hmmm, didn't know there was one there!!
Will be checking that out on Monday!!!!?
many people don't realise this one is there - it's fiddly though - especially if you have a leisure battery fitted..... on a late or a crossover you can remove the rear light if you cant fit your hand up, i did mine with the light in though and i'm a big chap.

Like everyone I have wondered about the petrol smell - and had it checked out by a local VW aircooled specialist. It still smells sometimes.

Is it possible to get a "legimate" petrol smell if going fast, downhill, in gear, with foot off the accelerator, ie is it possible fuel is forced through the system unburnt....?

Also - it seems when cold (ie choke engaged) the smell is worse, which may be expected (?)

Sorry to hi-jack the thread, hope this is relevant, are these possible - or am I just displaying my ignorance...!
if the system is sealed well you shouldn't - your car doesn't, right? but there are times when you could... for example if the breathers have been vented into the top of a metal pan type air filter by drilling a hole and fitting a connector to it, then theres only a bit of foam and wire gauze which isn't really going to hold the smell in, but realistically if you can smell fuel then it needs investigating, the other culprits are always the tank filler pipes which don't get changed often enough.
to be honest i'm quite envious of you early guys - changing the fuel lines is a piece of piss on yours..... i'm running a fuel injected 2 litre late bay and there are 18 fuel clips and 9 sections of pipe in the engine bay alone, let alone what's under the van.....
