I’ve got my steering box off for a refurb at the moment. When I removed the flange coupler bolt from the worm shaft there is a piece of metal that bends over the bolt head and the nut on the other side to lock it in place.
Looking at the usual suppliers I can’t find anyone that sells new ones. In the example I’m using from the Samba one is not fitted at all so what I’m asking is is the lock plate essential?
What about a nylon nut instead would that be ok?

I always build steering columns up with new bolts and nylock nuts, never had a problem.

The lock plate is visible in the pic on the right.
Does it not provide an earth path for the horn circuit?

There was no connection to the horn circuit on mine to the lock plate. You’re right it’s visible in the pic, before I undid the pinch bolt.

Thanks for the reply. I’ll make sure it’s torqued up right as it’s the only thing holding the steering column to the ‘box !
