When I thought I had decided on a camper, I've had my head turned by a lovely microbus.

It's a good bit more money, but amazing looking..very original and clean.

I tracked down the previous owner who sold it on...he professionally restored it and said it was a fantastic bus...he's still fond of it and reckons it was probably worth over £20K

The old floor had rotted due to salt water (Californian surfer!) and a new one welded on.

Should I run a mile, or is that a fair enough job?

why would a cali bus need a restoration ?

nothing wrong with a new floor welded in as long as its been done right. Make sure there is no hidden rust. Any pics ?

No pics, it was a bit shabby when it arrived and then restored into a wedding bus...so immaculate reupholstered interior and stripped back to metal paint job.

update:
I think I've found it and now I'm not so sure!

After contacting the seller, the seats don't recline, so don't think it's going to work out as a camper. :(

I've seen this van and its a minter . Hannover Heritage are very reputable afaik.

You'll need some bed hinges to get the seats to recline, that ain't no thing :)

No seats reclined in a microbus as standard, you need to find some Z bed hinges but in order for those to work the middle seat needs taking out or moving forward for the seat to make into a bed.

Nice bus by the way and Hannover Heritage have a good reputation,

I found this

But that doesn't look remotely comfortable. I doubt even if I got a 3 piece foam kit for the top that it would provide an even surface.

One of those seats would make a nice headboard though!

No they are comfortable, I used to have z bed hinges in one of my buses. most people use a thin futon mattress from Ikea to lay over the seats and that sorts out any imperfections there may be and then it can be folded into 3 behind the rear seat when not in use, one of the sizes fits perfectly. Remember the bases etc are sprung so its like a proper mattress.

Like Graham says, they are surprisingly comfy.

I use an air bed on mine, and no complaints. :)

Good news then, so with the raised section beside the tire combined with the seat folded out is about 5-6 feet?

On this bus, I would need the back seat brought forward and the floor recovered.

How much faffing about is there with the z brackets trying to get your bed ready at night?

As much as with a Rock n Roll bed, simply pull the base part forward, the backrest drops down and hey presto, lay out the mattress/airbed on top then your quilt/sleeping bag and away you go. A futon mattress fits from the back door and covers both the backrest and seat base so its the size of a double bed.

Try here http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/categories/departments/living_room/10663/#" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If not I think the futon shop sell roll up double mattresses,
