Fridge Location

Hi all.

First of all I have to say thanks for a great forum, full of useful info.

We are in the process of restoring our bay and are looking at interior options, we kind of know what we want but we are struggling with fridges and there location.
We don't really mind what fridge we have, a 3 way would mean cutting large holes in the shiny new paint work, a compression fridge is looking good but the cheapest option is a top loading version.

Sorry for the waffle, my question is, have any of you guys and gals got a top loading fridge fitted in your vans if so could you email some pictures over.

Thanks for that, it seems to be an average price for the compression fridges.

I've heard that the top loading ones are better as you don't lose as much of their cold air when you open the door. I was just wondering if anyone on here has installed one to see where they put it and how they look.

very straight forward no cutting just slides into the hole left by your cool box. I can't remember the model number but it would be worth keeping an eye out on ebay or any boat chandlers, it is 12/240v only as with a lhd you cannot vent for gas, but it doesn't kill the liesure battery when on 12v (110amp battery). I think I paid around £320-350

Can you switch the door hinge on those fridges? Looks good to me.

Interesting - doesn't that require venting (internally) to work properly?

I'm having the same quandry. I really want a front opening ridge for aesthetic reasons. But equally don't want to cut holes in the van or spend a fortune.

I did find the Waeco MDC50 - which says no need for holes - but £520ish is a lot.

So I'm now looking at the Waeco MF40 (£150ish) (which is only really an electric cool box) and the Dometic RF60 (£250ish) (which is a 3 way camping fridge that "must not be built in" (might take the risk....). Plus the RF60 consumes 110W, so not a go-er for a leisure battery.

we are not carrying a water tank so plenty of space behind it for ventilation. I would assume you can turn the door, unable to check at the mo as bus is in paint shop.

the weaco is about 1/2 inch too wide to fit in the cool box hole. Dubberdaz had one fitted in his bus but he had to get the sides machined in a joiners to get it in.

The key to these things is what power does it drain, three ways do not last two minutes on 12V, the Engle draws the least amount of electric I have found around 2amps/hour. Last time out I upgraded to a 110amp battery it was august bank and we lasted from the thurs to the monday with no issues inc the daughter watching a film every evening before gong to bed.
