Just a quick question

I have my rear disks ready to fit my bus, when I lined up the disks with my front disks, they are the same size 282mm, now I know that usually you have smaller disks at the back, probably due to the rear not requireing big disks, but will this have any effect on the braking? Bearing in mind I don’t have a servo or a brake bias valve.

I don’t want all 4 wheels to lock up, or to have the distribution of pressure to be 50/50 front and rear.

Should I fit a bias valve while I'm at it?

Thanks

Mark

i thought that all buses had a bias valve. i had one on my bus and that didnt have a servo. you need to proportion the braking force more to the front than the back.

thinking about it logically, if you have the same size discs front and back then the part of the disc that the calipers will grip will be going the same speed and will give eqaul braking all around. i dont think you want that - its something like 60-40 split front to rear

Doesnt the bias valve also react to the angle of the van? so if you are braking hard it will change the bias?

Which is why I thought you had to adjust it if you lower the front of your van more than the rear??

Anyone have a definitive answer?

I would have thought that having the same size disks on the back would be a bad idea (they'd we more likely to lock up under braking), but the size of your rear caliper is just as important - if your rear calipers are considerably smaller than the front it would be better.

I always thought that the bias valve was there to compensate for a heavy payload in the rear of the van.

Yeah, that's how it works - the mounting angle is important to relieving the pressure on the rear brakes.

It's all in the Bently.
