Put in new UK spec headlights and followed wiring advice elsewhere on the forum but sidelights not working. I didn't run an earth from the grey sidelight wire though, could this be the problem? And are the sidelights activated by pulling out the light switch one notch? I'm assuming thats the case. Thanks in advance.

yep, pull switch 1 click should operate side lights, i do not know if you need a seperate earth as the light unit should already be earthed, do other lights work???
have you checked the voltage at bulb end? did they work before?bulbs good?

Hmmm yes all present and correct but still no joy - fuse blowing straight out as soon as I pull the switch. Elsewhere on this forum the problem has been solved by switching the wires. Forgive me for being a bit of a dunce but what does this entail? Connecting to the other spade on the new sidelight perhaps? As it stands I've got a single grey wire running to the right hand light and two grey wires to the left, all as the bentley manual diagram states. I have a 1970 left hooker.

I assume all working ok before you changed headlamps to uk spec, fuse blowing straight away, what size fuse? Are you SURE you have not connected a live to earth????????? Will look in manual tommorrow sometime, to busy drinking beer at mo!

Looked at manual today, grey wires on sidelights are lives, i would check that they are not connected to earth connections, then check that you have not damaged the insulation any where.
