I have a 72 Dormobile - before got it 4 years ago it had been standing for about 6 - now i am coming to put in a remanufactures engine (probably 1600/1641 Vega Vs. Remtec?) But at the same time i wish to replace the fuel tank as i fear there is 34 years of sludge in there. NOt sure where to source one from - can you get them fabricated, where shoudl i look?

Great site, cheers

A few questions in there, thanks in advance,

Harry

Hello chap and welcome to the site. If you are after a new tank try calling Mega bug http://shop.megabug.co.uk/products.php?cat=99

You could also try SSP i think they sell em 8) http://www.vwheritage.com/ssp/_contact/

I wouldn't assume that jus because your tank is old it will need to be replaced!
Why not drain and flush it and see how it goes? It's a pig of a job to take it out - I wouldn't unless it's strictly necessary!!!

Welcome too!!!

;)

Had to drain the tank of my 68 dormobile last weekend after a fuel hose split, there was absolutely no sediment at all. If i was you i'd run the tank down low and drain the dregs out and see what the fuel looked like, if its not too bad an in line fuel filter should be all that you need. Keeping the tank fully filled as often as possible should minimise condensation and its associated effects.
