Maybe a daft question but trying to get the van running reasonably as supposed to be camping in it tomorrow night and trying to cover all bases, just after some confirmation on which way round the fuel hoses connect on the fuel pump, it's a brosol version ona 71 model engine, currently has hose from tank connected to top fitting and supply line to carb on bottom connection. I can't seem to find a picture in either Haynes or bently manuals.

Not a daft question as I seem to remember wondering the same as there were no instructions. But I am at work and the bus is at home. I would think if it is running the way you have it the hoses must be right as I don't think it will work the other way round. I seem to remember blowing through it to see and you could only blow one way (pump was not fitted obviously). I am pretty sure the way you have descirbed it is right.

tank to top of pump and bottom of pump to carb...
well that's how mine was and is...just swapped pump to clear alternator conversion :D
Had me thinking before reconnecting, but then realised new one has an arrow ;)

That's good in one sense that it's the right way round (wasn't 100% sure as I have found some bizarre stuff done by a supposed top American engine builder) but it doesn't help in my quest to get it running half decent.
