GL4 or GL5? Whoa! Did that discussion raise some tempers!
GL4 was the hypoid oil available when these vehicles were built. I use it in my trannies. It is a bit more difficult to find these days (and usually a tad more expensive) but it is out there. Works just fine as it was intended to.
GL5 in its original formulations was hard on the yellow metal parts (think brass) inside the transaxle. That was the major knock on GL5 - it would eventually put your transaxle outta commission. However, GL5 has been reformulated to be acceptable in our Bus transaxles. We have many folks (transaxle people among them) who have used and are using GL5 over here in The States.
So, were it up to me, I'd opt for GL4 'cause I'm a bit of a stockNazi. But I wouldn't hesitate to use (but not mix types) GL5.
