Spent quite a while tonight trying to get the engine back in the van. It always seems to be a bit of a struggle so I'm after your tips to make it easier in future!

What we do at the minute is to balance it on a couple of trolley jacks, make sure we have clearance for the engine mounts and that everything lines up andthen try and slide it back onto the gearbox. Does this sound about right? Always take an age to get it all lined up and in

Hi,

I think that you're better off balancing it on one decent trolley jack with a wide saddle. That way (with care) you can rock it right and left, forwards and backwards - gives to a lot more flexibility when lining it all up.

Tried one in the past but struggled with balance, might have to give it another go as the manouverability on two isn't great

I bought a sealey Motor cycle jack, makes it a whole lot easier removing/installing the engine. No balancing on a trolley jack.

I lile that idea, might have to keep an eye out for a secondhand one, bit pricey new  Hoping to not have the engine out again this year if I can help it!

4TH gear handbrake on,to lock input shaft, start studs in holes ,watch engine is square to gearbox(look from underneath)then as you push engine back turn crank with spanner on front pulley bolt to aline clutch splines .a good jiggle and should slip in a treat(as the actress said to the bishop) i like to start the trottle cable in its tube as well if yours is a crosser or late its a nessesity, just hope clutch is lined up

seems like we're not doing too much wrong then! Has anyone tried some longer threaded bar through the gearbox to help line it up? Think you could then tighten them down before swapping for the proper bolts at the end

I built a platform for my jack - some 18mm ply with side legs so I can get the jack in and out.....almost like a pallet for your engine...means you have to get the van a lot higher on a late or non removable valance....
