Already thinking about next summers holiday and thinking of taking the camper to Germany next year. Has anybody got any advice, as this will be the first time taking the van abroad, where is the best place for the ferry? I'm thinking of going to Berlin and Hamburg, maybe Wolfsburg, anybody stopped at any good campsites. I will probably be going for two weeks, with 2 kids as well.

All advice greatly received.

I've been to Germany for the last two years , we headed down to the black forest , and lake constant at the bottom of Germany , Lindau is lovely too , we never booked any sites and just turned up ! We had a book by Alan rogers , called " the best campsites in Europe " and the caravan club book too always handy ... Germany is a fab place to go and the weather has been pretty good too 40 degrees this year  the campsites we stayed at we great for families plenty for kids to swimming horse trekking etc and the facilities spot on ... If you need any more let me know only to glad to help out

You should take a day to visit Wolfsburg. Don't go in the weekend as the factory is closed in weekends.
Also visit the VW museum close to the factory.

Far too many beers for a coherent response so I will leave it at: Romantische Strasse

Haven't done it myself but major recommendations!

We went round germany last summer in our van loved it. Dover dunkirk is cheapest ferry, Wolfsburg is cool. We stayed at Kleinzenhoff in the black forrest best campsite i've ever been on. Indoor and outdoor pools. Rafts on the river for the kids top place.

Cologne is nice if you want to be near a city. The zoo there is amazing. Good museums and shopping.
The municipal campsite is right next to the Rhine too.

Koblenz is good too, again the camping is right by the Rhine.

Hamburg looks like a nice city when I visited there recently, but don't know what the camping is like.

If you have an I Phone, you can get the free Alan Rogers camping app on there, which has loads of European sites on it. Will be using it this summer.

The main roads in Germany are bliss in a slammed bus too, shame you have to cope with Belgium's roads first though to get there...

Dresden is a nice city to visit as is Potsdam. Visited both of them along with Wolfsburg a few years ago.
