Hi guys, looking to get a firewall welded in between the fuel tank and the engine (dont like the idea of fuel being near a hot engine) and ive noticed that later bays have a firewall in that position, so in '68 it must have been a design that needed improvement..

I have alot of other stuff that needs doing to the van panels and body work, but im going to do some prep work myself etc and it will be done in stages rather than a total overhal, so it needs to be someone localish..

:?:

if you weld a firewall in you wont be able to get at the tank if you need to. A better idea would be to rivet or just screw in a sheet to cover the area.

How are the late bay ones got to?

there screwed into place

keep it open fella, that part of the engine that the tank is exposed to is the cool area, so little heat there......

Hmm, it just seems like it really should be split from the engine.. I figure VW thought this too which is why on later vans there is a bulk-head there...?
