Hi
My bay search is finally over....got a 1970 westfalia.....HURRAY!!

Lots of things to tweak but the interior is all there just a little tatty, so gonna start there.
The plan is to replace the vinyl covers and get some original looking material for the curtains.
I need some help with the floorcovering,(got some modern lino at the mo) does anyone know what it would have been originally. All the original adverts are in black and white. Any one got any ideas or advise where I can look next.
The other thing that has me sctratching my head is how the panel in the wardrobe was covered as you can see it through the window. Would it have been covered in the curtain fabric? any photos would be really useful. Many thanks, hope to see you on the road soon.
Sarah

Congratulations finding your bus.
I will get you a close up picture of what the original floor and closet cover looks like when I get home.
Cheers.

Hi Sarah, great news - welcome! you have what is generally regarded as the best of the camper conversions and there will be plenty of advice on its way I'm sure!

regarding tracing the original fittings,you can do a lot worse than visit 'the samba' website,its packed with good info.check out the archives/type 2 section for original press pictures etc.... http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/lit/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

p.s. we love pics on earlybay as well, hint hint

Kind Regards - Rob

Hi and welcome to bus ownership 8)

Thanks for the kind words but alas its not quite as good in real life

To post pics set up a photobucket account and copy the IMG file and paste it on here. All quite simple when you know how.

Sorted thanks for the photobucket tip....so here it is my new pride and money pit!!!!!

I will post some interior pics when it's back from having a once over....I am completly new to the scene so want to make sure there is nothing scary, although slightly worried my naivety might get me ripped off. It had a respray last back to original colour and the body work all seems solid only imported in 2008. Fingers crossed when the garage calls.

very nice!! Lotus white? just ask on here if you're unsure Sarah, you'll always get a good balance of opinion that way & hopefully never get ripped off. that red interior looks good,I've just had mine done in red, goes great with the white i.m.o.

I was told it was pearl white? The red seats are just covers to hide some well worn cab seats, I would like to get the cab seats completly reupholstered to the original which I think is a basket weave pale beige to match the door cards, the seats at the moment are a dark brown???
I have got some new handles as some of them are a bit ropey, but I ordered the beige instead of brown, am I being too fussy considering not fitting them and getting the brown instead to keep it original.....I think i could become obsessive LOL

Nice looking bus you have there and welcome to the forum.
Yeah looks Pearl White to me. (proper westy colour). The original (OG) flooring is not available any longer so most people either find something close which can be quite difficult, or go for the classic chequred look. The rear bunk/jump seat/stool would have been a colour called Mustard Yellow. Again a copy is available at a price but its not quite a perfect match and again if the OG covering is not in place and in perfect condition people tend to fit something to there own taste.
When i got my bus it had OG covers and carpet covering the lino (which wasnt good) so its do it yourself time.

Heres mine

Im sure the handels on the furniture are classed as grey.

I agree it's stunning....
heres another stupid question, can you tell me about your bumper as I have seen a few cali imports with these and think they look great!

They are over riders that fit over your existing bumper. They are not exactly cheap to get hold of, but then again what is for early bays these days. They come in sets and the rear also has 2 fitted.

Good luck with finding all the parts!!!!!

Clyde's bus is sweet 8)

Your looks to be a good canvas to start working with, so good luck ;)

As promised here is a close up picture of the original flooring on my '71 bus and a picture of a reproduction of the original mustard seat covers.
Cheers.
