From my days as a kitchen designer  The different grades of stainless steel were available especially in stainless steel sinks and the the quality reflected in the grades used and the price. Stainless is actually the clue as in it means stains less not that it`s impossible to stain  It`s really a compromise between how much steel is in the mix where the majority of the strength comes from but will rust, and how much chromium is in the mix, the more chromium the less it will stain but more chromium makes the steel more malleable (flexible) which is not always a good thing for things like brakets etc. So in short,,, ALL stainless steel will rust if left with water on it long enough but usually it`ll clean off fairly easily 8)
You could always buy them and strip them and get them triple chromed I spose  then fit them

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,, And the same with the magnets, depends on the mix

I think with any aftermarket stainless or chrome, as long as you keep it clean and polish, spray some wd40 or suchlike, and generally look after it?

Lets call it 'Sunny Climate Stainless Steel'

Hi All,

I am now gonna be ordering these soon, as i have secured a price with the supplier, as i had seen the price change a bit, maybe a exchange rate thing.

I think i am gonna post a quick thread up on TLB and SSVC to get a few more numbers up, I reckon on 3 on here.

Any more takers so i can get this finalised? Probably delivery just before Xmas, but may be after, if it helps people out?

Get your names on the list!

I like em but also really like the look of the larger genuine US option shown in the pic. Can you still buy them anywhere? According to the samba article you used to be able to get them from JK, but not shown on their site any more.

Hi,

Yes, i did find a supplier for these, but they were about twice the price, and i'm not too sure on the square look of those, the other ones are a little rounder and i think it suits the bay well, was gonna get them, but IIRC the price was just for the mirror head, and you had to but the brackets and fixings, so discounted that option right away as too expensive

Two options for the hole i see.... bung it up with a bung ;-)....... Im gonna try make a piece of metal that mounts in the hole an the mirror mounts to it rather than drill the door that's the plan any
way :-D

IIRC, the guy who owns that bus made a point of leavi g the hole visible as he runs a cable from his cb radio through the door, and he mentions that you could probably fit it differently

Good idea. You could use a suitable size of metal, bolted through into the mirror mount with washer to space off the bodywork, and fix to that. Get something made up - you may want to make a few extra if you do! ;)

Hi,

Right, I am looking to close this in the next few days, so those who expressed a interest, i will be contacting you soon. I have left this as late as possible to try and get a few more names on before i order, and have put a thread on the late bay, early bay, and the split screen van club, and have a few more names.

Delivery is now gonna be after Xmas, so i will be looking for a deposit to secure, as you can appreciate, it's quite a outlay for me, so watch out for a PM if you are on the list.

Cheers!

Will see what can come up with when they come :)

An ready send a money when ever your ready dude :)

hi,

Thanks, i have posted on the other forums to gee up any last min interest, but have pretty much decided on a total amount to order, so will be placing this in the next few days, and then just after Xmas del, as they have low stock (especially now!)

Full payment would be great as i wont be out of pocket, but i can appreciate maybe folk may not want to pay in full as they aren't dealing direct with a company, mind you, no different to paying up front with any other group buy i guess, there is always a middle man! but i am sure other people on here can vouch for me, so when you get the PM for payment, i'll leave it up to your disscression- full £75, or part payment to secure, say £25, and then £50 once they arrive?

Thoughts?

Cheers,

Alistair
