Hello!

Deciding on our first camper and looking for some help on prices.

I'm keen on a Cali import Westfalia which is advertised at £13,000, appears reliable, very original interior, paintwork appears pretty good (not show winner).

Some importers are charging £25, 000+ for similar vans.

Does £13,000 appear to be too cheap? What is a typical guide price on a 1970 camper?

We can't afford to be shafted on a deal.

Any advice appreciated.

You should be able to get a very fine westy for 13k. There's no need to pay 25k unless you're buying one that's been totally stripped down and rebuilt in 'as new' condition.

I'd advise you to do a lot of research before you buy. You should be able to get a seriously good bus for £13,000 at the moment as the market is quite slow compared to a few years ago.
In my opinion, very few bays are worth £25,000. There would have to be something amazing about it for it to be worth that.

I paid £14k for mine looking like this

Fully repainted, retrimmed, lowered, serviced , uk registered, new rubbers etc etc etc
Without any work done at all they wanted £8.5k looking like this.

She's imported from Montana.

Thanks for the replies.

I think what I'm looking for is a company who will supply a completely stripped and restored van with a blank interior.

This will allow to choose my own modern interior from whoever.

Anyone have a list of restorers within 2 hours drive of Cambridge?

Try karmann konnection in Southend, they import a fair few vans and restore to the buyers requirements , as they did with mine. You can then dictate exactly what sort of restoration you want, show finish or clean daily runner.

There is a few other company's in Southend area that do the same thing.

If you want to spend some money, get in touch with Type Two Detectives at Burwell or Andy Raw at AMR Motors at Exning... both 15 mins from Cambridge both well known with good reputations and both close enough for you to go back to if anything is not quite right with your restored bus!

Not to everyones taste but stand out from the crowd.

Be lucky to get it in your garage though ;)
