Absolutely horrendous..... Gutted for you.

Good on you for posting will definitely be making fire control part of the budget for my resto.

Nothing more to say but echo everyone's comments already made.... Ben

Crickey!
I feel really bad for you. Thanks for the kick up the arse though. I bought an extinguisher and its been next to the front door for ages.
I'll fit it in the bus this weekend.
Sad that your tragedy might help save me from one.
Hopefully you'll stick around here for more moral support.

Tony.

Thanks again for support and kind words, it really does help. Awaiting Engineer’s report to insurance now and then see what they say. Dale, you don’t work at Pilks Lathom do you? That’s where I work, that would be a coincidence. One funny thing, my daughter caught the near side of the front bumper a week ago on her way to work and was mortified having to tell me it was scratched- and I think that was the only unburnt part left! Keep enjoying your busses folks, Bri

After reading & seeing this thread I've now bought a fire suppression kit from Peter @ VW Aircooled works arriving Tuesday next week. Hope everything gets sorted for you insurance wise, so you can start the search for your replacement... Ben

So sad for you :( I had a fire in mine, way back in 1996, but was lucky enough to be on a busy road and a fella came over with an extinguisher. It kept the flames back until just before the fire brigade got there when an empty fuel can, I had stored in the spare wheel hole, exploded through the rear side window  There is nothing as scary as watching a fire like that take control. I still have a panic if I smell fuel and have never been without an extinguisher since. We also had a fire procedure when the kids were small, them out safe first then any gas bottles.

Thoughts are with you, have some rescue remedy and take care of yourself x x x

I feel wounded for you Bri, heart breaking news buddy but as many have said your Ok, the daughters off the hook and with a fair wind you will be looked after by the Insurance and will have a nice "Project" soon...

Keep your chin up Fella :|

Mate I feel so sorry for you, I would be suicidal!! :(

I just showed the pictures and your comments to my wife , she actually started crying whilst making my scrambled eggs!! :|

Just one big happy family, :D

Really sorry to hear this but glad you've shared it - you're right that at least if it starts people caring an extinguisher then it'll not all have been in vain. Still, I feel for you

Sorry to hear the bad news - fingers crossed the insurance will sort you out efficiently and you can get back into bus ownership.

Mate
I proper feel for you
If it was me with the kids in the van I would be beside myself
Hope you get things sorted and glad your safe
Norm :D

Your post will force a rocket up everyones arse to get a system with a spare extinguisher or two, me included.

Main thing is you are safe, the bus can be replaced :(

Take care

Des

Gutted for you mate but glad everyone escaped unscathed. Buses can be replaced........;)

To echo Trikky's post, I've suffered from the magically shrinking new fuel hose syndrome whilst driving my split crewcab down to Mallorca after the volksworld show in 2012. Unbelievably luckily for me I spotted it in the hotel car park one morning just after start up, whilst doing a visual inspection (which is now an SOP ;) ) and was able to shut down and tighten clamps (Dual Dells) without further mishap. The hose was marine spec and 2 years old at the time and there had been no smell of petrol in the lead up and amazingly it happened on both carbs simultaneously! Lesson learned.......just because it was fine the day before doesn't necessarily mean its ok today ;)

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. It's like loosing a close family friend :(
