Handbrake cable brackets

Evening all.
I've replaced my handbrake cables on my 70 crew cab since adding adjustable spring plates. My bus has no cables before this so I'm working a bit in the dark. However when I've fitted the new cables the rear rubber section between the backing plate and bracket on the rear torsion bar it's too short. Is this normal? Or do I need to move the brackets back??

can you measure the conduit from end to end? AFAIK it should be 380mm

total length should be 3438mm where the adjusters are at the base of the handbrake lever.
