My heating system isnt working cos ii have some of the heater pipes missing( 60 and 70 mm dia) , including a 12 inch section in thje middle of the main pipe that runs from back to front (70 mm dia)
can i replace them with rubber radiator hose of the correct dia used in water cooled engines ?......the heater pipes obviously carry hot air, but do they get very hot themselves ?

more heater questions !!

can anyone tell me ,

1) from left to right on the dash , what does each heater lever do, and what position (up and down) they need to be to do it. I dont have the levers at the moment , so have no idea whether the controls behind the dash are on or off / hot or cold etc

2)ive reconnected the heater pipes from the exchangers thro to the large pipe coming into the front of the cab....but not including the splitter and 2 screen pieces......is there a blower any where in the system (i dont have one) ? ...

3)How does the heat get from back to front ?

4) how long before you get heat....ive just driven about 5 miles but the pipes underneath dont seem warm, and theres no hot ! (or luke warm) air coming into the cab.

thanks

From what I've gathered over the last week or so, trying to sort mine..

The dash Levers should be down to get air out. the two left ones should be red for heat the two levers on the right should be blue for fresh air, good way for testing this is to get someone to push the levers up and down whilst you look through the grill on the front of the van and your see the fresh air flaps open and close.

Next thing I found is if all the vents are open then your struggle to get much out of the front. Make sure the tube under the dash with the vents either side is closed (down) and if it has rear vent under the walk through, there is another lever under the drivers seat.

I found with all the vents closed I could feel heat come out from the windscreen vents on idle. So when my import docs finally come through and I get it on the road I'm hoping it will improve as the revs make the fan blow harder.

1970's Manual here:-

The red levers control the left and right heat exchangers respectively and the blue levers control the fresh air flaps behind the front grille.
Up for off and down for on.

The air is blown from the fan housing through the heat exchangers where it heats up and then onto the interior of the bus.
You don't need any further assistance. Mine hasn't got all the seals where the heat exchangers meet the corrugated tubes under the floor of the bus, but is roasting hot after about 10 minutes, especially on dual carriageways/motorways.
Obviously, if you have the cargo heater outlets open there will be less airflow at the cab.
