Ok guys I have to replace this cross member which has the heater tube pass through it and same up front. My question is where would you cut the tube (is it joined under cross member? how is it joined?) and when re joining how can you weld all round if necessary with the floor still in place ?

Thanks andy

if your replacing the crossmember just slice the crossmember either side of the Y tube. Its welded to the crossmember and tacked to the rear bulkhead. The Y tube has a flange to connect the heater pipe which meets one side of the crossmember.

Once you have it out you should be able to work around cutting off the remaining crossmember be taking it off in smaller sections. AFAIK there are no replacements available for the Y tube so be careful with it. They are fairly easy to patch up if there any rust on them.

if you need diagrams let me know.

Thanks johnny, some pics could be of help if you dont mind. The y tube does need patching right in the v part so i thought it might be easier to repair if removed ? which would then aid getting at the cross member
The main problem i think is that over the years every body has had a go at welding a bit on and so the old girls original form has got lost along the way making it difficult to know whats original or not
I have also asked for pictures regarding the front jacking points if your in a giving mood or am i now taking the p**s :D
