I have an Oct 1967 bay window Westy imported from California but there is no engine number stamped on the plaque at the base of the fan housing. The plaque is there but there is nothing on it.........zip....... and......there is no evidence of it being ground off either so the question is where is it ?. I simply don't know what engine is fitted. I have a suspicion it may be a 1600 single port but who knows !!

Can anyone help me out..................I'm not too concerned about the actual number, but as it is being MOT'd shortly and will be driven routinely, I need to know what engine I have for service parts etc................Is there any other way of telling what type it is ??.

Yours 'desperately'.............G :?

Engine number should be on the case under the generator stand.

Post a pic of the engine, and of the inlet manifold as it goes in to the cylinder head. A single large tube as it enters the head, its a single port manifold, has two branches as it enters the head, twin port.

Bear in mind that sometimes when engines are reconned this number is ground off or replaced with a plate.

The engine code will only reliably tell you what case you have as heads, barrels and pistons are interchangeable, so as noddy has described you have to do a visual check of the other components fitted.
