ok so I have this problem again, last time it was the relay so I have fitted a new relay with no luck.
I have had the stalk apart and nothing is obvious, the is simple 1 bit of metal touches another. I did have a wire come away so resoldered it back on, I couldn't get it wrong as there was only 1 bare but of solder.
It is now officially doing my head in, I could go and buy a new indicator stalk assembly but they are 130£. Any ideas or is it the switch?

The stalk switch is a simple contact like say a push button. It does not hold the high or low beam setting.

When the light switch is set to the headlights on position (fully pulled out) it supplies power to the headlamp relay so that, when the stalk is operated, the relay alternates between its two settings, supplying power to either low or high beam wiring.

Hence changing the stalk will not fix your problem.

Having changed the relay already you need to now check that it is being supplied with power when you turn on the headlight switch.

Here's a wiring diagram that may help you

Cheers trikky, you were my second pair of eyes. I was testing away since changing the relay but with one major flaw. I hadn't turned the lights on they work fine now .
