how 2 relace cam followers

hi i need some advice on how 2 replace my cam followers can u replace them with out taken the engine out. the camper is a type 2 with a 1.7 type 4 engine just replaced all the valves but now now y its not running right . many thanks

I forced myself into the back corner of the workshop where I have a partly stripped type4 motor, I would have said you could not remove cam followers in situ but I used a super strong magnet (Neodymium) held with long nose pliers & pulled a couple out easy
I hope you get it sorted

hi thanks, the problem i have is the engine is a 1971/72 but v w only put hydrolic cams in 1978 so y does this have them? one of the cams came out as u said with a magnet and is a hydrolic one?

What is the code stamped on the motor ?
CJ....2000cc,,8/75-7/79
AP...1800....8/73-7/75
CA...1700...8/71-7/73

Please correct me if Im wrong but, shouldnt the cam and followers be replaced as a set?

hi engine no is cb...1700 1971/72 original. yes all the cams need replcing thanks 4 all your help much appreciated.

hi if u need to replace followers u should realy check the rest of the internals for ware
