If I flick the indicator stalk to get full beam the horn sounds. WTF ..... Any ideas why this should happen???

Sounds like you have a touching wire someware.
The wires possibly living the steering column and setting the horn off?

Did you find out exactly what caused this?

Mine did this in the past, although it was only triggered occasionally by indicating right.

Have now fitted a new indicator unit.

Disconnected the horn and refitted via a separate switch. I guess it is a wire problem from the horn via the steering tube... probably a short somewhere

The horn ring must be connecting in someway to the indicator switch and when you operate the main beam it's providing an earth to the horn. I would start by having a look at the indicator switch for any contact around the steering wheel/column.
