I'm 40 and got my first bus about 4 yrs ago, had a GP1 Buggy when I was 17 and a couple of beetles as well, but waited till we had kids before we got a camper :D

I did notice that Trikky avoided the original theme of this thread    As I suppose I should :? But I`m 57 and too old to care anymore. I had my first split in Oz at about 15 / 16 but it didn`t really count as I never managed to get it back on the road again after a bad smack in it for my folks. Then at about 20 / 21 mid to late 70s I had a beach buggy and a beetle along with a zillion other cars and motorbikes. Sherbie is my bus now and I guess I had him about four years and been on the road about two or three years. I can remember back in Oz when a friend of the family turned up with an Early Bay and we just could not believe how fast it was compared to our split, and it was a 1500 I think. We didn`t call them Early Bays because they were like space ships up to ours ,,, and Ultra Modern . 8)

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,All times and dates mentioned above are only correct in my brain and nowhere else   ;)

Can't quite understand how it can be true, but apparently I'm 48. Did I blink and miss the last 30years?
Had a splitty, bug and fastback in the early/mid '80s then a break until getting this bus 6 years ago.

Im 48, got my First Bus (65 Splitty Dormobile) 20 or so years ago...and my Bay 13 years ago. And my first Beetle 25 years or so ago. :D

I'm 39, had my bus and bug for 6 years, my first bay was at 26 ish. My younger days were all about air cooled scoots.

I got my first bus when I was 29 but aged about 35 years in the following 7 months so technically nearly 30 or 65 by the time I was driving it depending on your point of view!!!

All right I'll come clean.

I bought my bay when I was 22, not long after I first started working for VW. It was nearly new and cost £1350. To put that in perspective, that was just under a years salary at the time.

To save you doing the maths, I just turned 63.

Over the intervening years I have had a bewildering variety of cars, both new, old, collectors and vintage ones. The bay is the only one I haven't sold yet.

For the first five years it was the everyday vehicle, though I did also have a variety of second cars during that period which were for fun and doing up/restoring and then selling after a few months (which also helped pay the mortgage at the time).

From late 1978 onwards I had company cars so the bay became a second vehicle and the annual mileage became very modest, being now limited to holidays and breaks.

When I moved out here back in 1988 to start my own business, its value was so low I took it with me, despite being right hand drive.

At a rough tally I have slept in the bus well over four hundred nights and it still has the same magical effect of transforming into a home when we are away in it. Waking up in a different place each morning is one of those things that never seems to get old, unlike me.

I'm 45 going on 25. Bought the bay when I was 43. Had a Beetle when 16 ( my grandad's old 12 that I turned into a Baja) then spent a few years in the wilderness of company car land before buying a Caterham 7 which scratched an itch for a long time until I caught the bus lurgy. The Cat really needs to go next year as I have a Landy itch to scratch...

I'm 42 bought my first bus, T25 westie 4 1/2 years ago, which I've kept, and an early bay 6 months ago. Before that I had a few vespa's but with having kids and changing jobs so I no longer used a scooter to go to work on they went. Loving both my vans, the T25 is a 79, 2litre cu and is our family camping machine. The bay we are using more for days out and it's going to be a rolling project certainly for the next few years, bloody love it!

Bus born in 1972, I was born in 1964.
In my first air cooled in 1976 (a friend's older brother had Beetles).
Bought my first one in 2005 (always wanted an air cooled, but cash, house kids etc precluded this :( )

In the 8 plus years of ownership, I have managed to cover around 250 miles or so...............

One day it will be on the road........
