Does anyone know the magic formula for removing heater dash knobs.....2red 2black so that i can get instrument pod off.

I spent 2 hours tonight swearing and skining my knuckles.........and all i have got is a back acke!!

cheers stevie

Remove the radio and glove locker, this will give you a better view and access to the heater controls. Each lever is held in by a plastic retainer which just pulls out. You will need to do each lever one at a time but it is fairly obvious once you've released the first one.

WHS^^^ but be aware you are very likely gonna shag the originals as they can be a little brittle and you will likely suffer further scelped knuckles......

Its a plastic pin (three pronged) that splays into a receptor....so if you can compress the splayed end a touch with long nose pliers or similar it will help...

If you remove the plastic plugs the chances are they will break because they become brittle. Plus it is ULTRA fiddly to nip the end of the plug and pull them out at the same time. When I did this job I removed the radio and then undid the nut that holds each of the the levers, removed the washers and plastic spacers, removed the springs from the end of the levers, removed the cables from the levers then removed the levers from the shaft. This may seem a long way round but it leaves the BRITTLE plastic plugs in place.

I did it the lazy way, warmed them up with a hair dryer, squeezed them with a pair of pliers, rewarmed them again and then pulled them off.It worked for me,only one split which I glued and clamped .
Bodge and Legit is my sons nickname for me. :)

I didn't replace the plastic clips and the arms stay in place without them.

And much easier to get the dash off for when I find a trip speedo.
