How to remove wheel from lowered bus?

Guys, sounds stupid but I had real issues getting the rear wheels off under the arch..

It was catching on the drum and the top of the arch. Is this normal? How do other people get their rear wheels off a lowered bus? Or has my rear suspension setup just been bodged meaning it doesnt return to normal when jacked?

I think one method is to put big pry-bar between springplate and chassis to push springplate down, giving you more clearance.

6 foot scaffold pole and a fat boy on the end,

or if on your own slacken the plate that covers the rear torsion bars and get a pry bar in there to lever the spring plate out just enough to clear the bottom casting thus allowing the rear wheel to go lower.

oh and you may have to undo the bottom of the rear shock.

That's what I do - it doesn't need much weight to give me the clearance and I have 205/70 tyres on.

Adjustable spring plate are great help. :lol:

However I still have to undo the bottom shock mount due to the shortened shocks I use. :?

mine used to be so low it was a 2 man job to change rear tyres. Then I had the horrible thought how the heck would I do this at the side of the road if I had a puncture! :shock:

Now I've going back up to the point where the wheels come off with no pry bar, but still lowered. :lol:

Exactly what i was thinking... At the side of the road in the rain with a freshly re-paneled arch - how easy would it be!?

Anyway, what do ou mean back up to the point where the wheels come off but still lowered??

I was thinking, my bus didnt even have the engine in, which would mean it would sit even lower..... :shock:

for the side of the road, i would think your best bet wuld be to have a nice can of tyre foam with you

I use a scissor jack off a hatchback, couple of squid from the scrappers. Put it between the chassis and springplate........bingo
Gonna get some tyre foam for the roadside aswell

Oh yeah........ I remove the bottom shock bolt aswell.

TBH it's been about 8 years since I've had a blow-out so I'm not going to worry about one now.

Tire foam is a great idea.. What happens to the foam when you want to take the tyre off the rim? Does the foam just scrape out or something?

Im thinking on the road canned foam is the easiest with pry bar for actaully getting the wheel off in the garage..

thats the problem with foam, you cant re use the tyre!

but i drove my car for 6 months with a tyre filled with tyre foam, it never went down once lol

I'm also running 60 profile tyres, not the 80 profile as on yours, its still low but doesn't sit on the bump stops at the rear when loaded up for holidays etc.

Oh, and I didnt say they come off easy- just no pry bar or undoing shock bolts!
