Hello I’ve got a USA bus that at some point has been converted to uk spec.
I’ve had the dash out for a few years and now I’m struggling to get hazards and indicators.
It has the original hazard switch on the dash and a modern 4 pin flasher relay with C2 31 49a 49 pins
Can anybody help me with what wires go where please?! 🙏
Thanks
Tracey

Ok thank you for that, I shall have another go tomorrow & report back.
I hate electrics!

I’ve got a black/ green /white with a blue piggy backed coming from the column that is not connected says it goes to the 49 a on the hazard switch. Should that be on the 49a on the flasher relay that’s been added at some point for uk use?

Right ok, I seem to be getting somewhere, I’m just a bit thick when it comes to wires 😆 (I don’t think I’m alone) I’m just finding it confusing as it’s been converted and has a flasher relay so I can’t just follow a standard diagram. The relay is making a loud noise when I turn the hazard switch on so I must have a wire on the wrong pin somewhere 🤔

Was the WHOLE wiring loom converted to UK specification, or was it simly fudged so that there were separate amber rear direction indicators.

Whatever happened, it would be wise to consult the 1968 USA specification wiring diagram on The Samba forum website, in the technical archives.

The early-model 1968 & 1969, plus possibly the 1970 & 1971, USA specification wiring systems are bizarre!

I know they make no sense at all 😂
It still retains it all red rear lights so I think just the fronts? I’ve been cleaning wiring up today and found that the black/green/white wire is hanging on by one strand in the stalk housing 😬 so it’s out with the solder gun.
Thanks for the heads up on the samba USA wiring I’ll have a look at it 👍

Crimp wires as solder could melt if there was a high current but solder now to get you going. That bk/we/ gn wire is the supply from the fuse. Should be White 8Amp. A Red fuse is 16A

I had to solder as the connections to the little circuit board (if you can call it that) came off, they’ve obviously been soldered before. The black white green isn’t coming from the fuse box on mine? It’s coming from the stalk. I don’t have a white only to the headlight switch? But I e got the red live 😆 that’s a start I guess!
It’s driving me crazy now 😕

So let’s start with simple questions one at a time. Should the black/green/white wire be connected to the flasher relay OR the hazard switch?

Thanks for your help guys, I give up I’m probably going to end up damaging something if I carry on so I’ve got an auto electrician coming over next Wednesday to ‘sort’ it fingers crossed. I gotta be on a ferry on the 25th June to go to Le Mans. If anyone is coming down to rtts and wants beer tokens to do the indicators feel free to hit me up 🤙
Thanks again
Tracey

I feel your pain. Been battling a new loom in a 69 bay that was built on the cusp of some electrical changes during manufacturing. Ended up with 5 diagrams. Literally made me dizzy. Never again 😵

Thanks mate. It’s awful isn’t it!! I’ve done everything else myself but I’m stumped by this. The annoying thing is I know that everything works I just don’t have the Knowlege to put it back together so hopefully the electrician can sort it. Should be simple for him

My home-made custom wiring loom, for my 1973 VW "1600" Type 2 with VW 17/1800 Type 4 style engine, is about SIX times more extensive than the original factory-fitted wiring loom, so this might make you feel even dizzier!

I needed lots of additional cables for supplementary instrumentation and electrical accessories. I took the precaution of drawing comprehensive wiring diagrams and choosing a coherent system of wiring colours. Cables for the extra warning & tell-tale lights typically have a blue base colour with various tracer colours, whilst cables for the supplementary gauges typically have a green base colour with various tracer colours
