Ps love your comments about your dad sounds like you have a top dad !!!!

Only just read that, my dads the greatest even though he won't believe I think that. Best dad I've ever had anyway!

Hi Mark,

Sorry to hear about your problems. I've you named and shamed yet? I'm trying to pick a bodyshop now in the Staffs area so hope I don't find myself in a similar situation in the next few months or so. Don;t think these guys are on my list....or are they?

Hope you get it sorted.

Cheers

Unbelievable really.. Worst thing is I blame myself all the way for it, from being to relaxed and patient with them and not just taking it off them in he beginning when I knew all along they were just lying arseholes.

You've met the guy Dale so you'll know, if his painting matched his ego he'd be producing show winners every time.

That's certainly the impression that you get off him, you can't leave it like that though

I wouldn't dream of turning that quality of work out and charging top money for it

I can't remember how many trophies he said he'd won :?

I'm not naming and shaming while there still the possibility I have to deal with them and I might end up making that even more unbearable. I know there well known in the vw scene so I'm pretty sure someone here will know them (in fact it was someone on here who recommended them to me!)

However if your in the staffs area your ok, for the detectives that want to know it's not difficult to find out by simply flicking back a few pages ;)

Don't get me started, the best paint trophies on the wall are from 95 obviously when he had more dedication.

The beetle he was always bragging about won at deva this year but that was just a top ten in the daily drivers class and Brian burrows even announced it when he gave them out that basically everyone deserved one and that they had just chosen there personal favourites.

I'm stumped though, I feel like cutting corners myself now and just sticking it back together and selling it on. I know most of the issues are a simple fix and that the filler it there for the unforeseeable now but it still doesn't help.

NINE FUCKING MONTHS!!!!

P.s

By cutting corners I only mean painting rather than powder coating.... Not bothering to rechrome stuff but just polish it. Just to clear that up for those potential future buyers

I don't blame you not naming and shaming. You might be able to get some resolution from them as it sounds like they have admitted the work is not acceptable. Also word soon gets around so if you were to formally state who had done this work surely his future work would be affected.

Personally I'm trying to find a bodyshop who do not specialise on VW's, rather classic cars, but these can be pricey. I think there is some sense in that but not sure. It's always a gamble. I'm taking my van on Friday to a guy locally who comes recommended. He's a classic car bodyshop but a one man show and has only painted one Bay before, but just completed a Daimler and currently working on an Austin Healey.

That was also my train of thought, this place isn't a vw specific garage the two guys who are there just happen to be vw mad. They had just completed a Jensen interceptor and an ac cobra when I was there to get a quote of them.

On a lighter note got all my lights working today how they should be, had a lucky escape with a faulty headlight switch though but managed to get it working after I stripped it down.

And made a start with my shoddy dashboard, been a long time since I've wrapped anything in vinyl so this will probably end up in tears

Have this lovely crack to sort out,

Probably not the best using fibreglass filler but I can't see it ever flexing where it is so I'm sure it'll do the job

Ground out the crack and filled

Sanded smooth

Then for the vinyl,

And we'll leave it there, she wasn't happy me glueing in the house so I'll have to have a go in the morning when she's out

Just a little update on my 71,

After a rather heated discussion the painter has now agreed that they should of fitted a rear corner to the bus as it didn't pull out as well as they'd hope it would (although why they didn't tell me at the time will remain a mystery)

So it's due to go back now at the end of June to have a rear corner fitted/battery tray fitted and all the other issues sorted out.

Although I'm still not sure I want it to go back there and may just live with the rear corner and pay someone else to buff all the issues away as I really have no confidence with them.

Jesus, your not having much luck are you  :axechase:

Quite simply.. nope.

Im not going into on here, as the main thing that concerned him was that I put a comment and some photos on Volkszone.

We've agreed June/July only because the shells currently sat with no running gear on it, so I need time to get all that powder coated and back on but with the distraction of two other builds finding the time is a little difficult at the moment.

Did I mention that the aux battery trays rusting already
