Hi Guys,

I've kept this quiet for a few months as work didnt know about it, but its now public that I am off to Australia to work...probably for 2years. I'm not going to be taking my bus with my as it costs about £6k to ship one way and I will be wanting to ship it back then we return to UK. i am very tempted though to buy another one when i get out there any get settled.

I fly out on the 2nd April to start working for Ford. The job sounds awesome and an opportunity of a lifetime.

I will be staying on the forum and will keep contributing to thie fab forum.

Nice one - what a great opportunity!
I'm actually technically Australian and have plenty of family out there - so if you need any help at all just shout 8)
Which part you going to?

thanks mate. we have a few friends and family dotted around oz and NZ so going to be leaning on them initiall :)

i'm off to Melbourne.

i'm going to be designing the suspension suspensions for Ford cars for the Australasia and Pacific market. based at their proving ground, taking test data of their track cars and then modelling and designing how the cars should handle :)

Sounds awesome. You should deffo but something out there but I reckon something you can use and enjoy from the off. Friend of mine did exactly that. bought it, used it, gave it a little tlc then sold it for $500 more than he paid a year later. 2 years will fly by. All the best and good luck

Say Hello to Melbourne for me, as it`s where I grew up. Funnily enough, the last four or five years I lived at a place called Upfield which was part of an area called Broadmeadows and at the end of Broady on the Hume Highway or sometimes known as the Sydney Road was the Ford factory about half a mile from my house  Half my mates used to work at that factory back in the 70s and I can even remember one buying a bright yellow new Escort van with some sort of GT spec when the first Escorts came out, so MK 1. I spose. Don`t know if the Ford factory is still in the same place but I`ll find out when I email some of my mates there. Have a great time, there is absolutely no way you can go to Melbourne and not have an absolutely brilliant time

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,,, Not jealous,,Not jealous,, If I just keep saying it,,,,,,,,,, ;)

I seriously am really not one little bit, not even a tiny tiny tiny bit or even a miniscule little bit jealous  Go and enjoy

haha thanks.

I think the Boradmeadow place is the main ford site, but they have a site in geelong and the test track outside Lara - which is where i will be based. thinking of initially living in/around geelong as its cheaper and more convenient until we find our feet. also depends on where my g/f gets a job but will see. i'm def up for buying one that is already sorted....especially after the last project took over twice as long as we are intending on being in oz hehe.

cant wait. empty boxes are being delivered on friday to sort our personal effects out...and the g/f clothes that dont fit in luggage hehe

Here's another very jealous Melbournite.

I'm a born and bred Melbourne boy who for some bizarre reason has wound up in country Lincolnshire.

Geelong is going to be ummmmm... interesting. Not really my cup of tea but it's a good starting base and close to work for you. Another big advantage is you're close to the great ocean rd. Half an hour drive and your at Bells beach. Be warned though you're going to be in bogan (chav) central in Geelong. Who knows you might fit in well.

Join up to this forum. http://forums.kombiclub.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; It's a pretty cool bus forum in Oz. Plenty of hippies to have a laugh with.

Good luck with the venture and having the balls to take it on. Enjoy the sun and surf.
Chris

ha ha. Bogan. nows there a word i havent heard for a while. make sure you get a copy of the classic Aussie movie called "the castle". should help you to fit in and acustom yourself with a few local Colloquialisms.
im a Sydneysider but travelled to Melbourne many times as the company i worked for had a branch near Frankston. Melbourne is a good city though, very cosmopolitan.

good luck and dont forget to watch "the castle"........darl!

hooroo.

Good on you Nathan. :)

Great opportunity and a very interesting sounding job as well. Brilliant.

Just like ozziedog - I am not jealous

Keep in touch and let us know how it all goes - and dont forget, lots of pictures are obligatory :)

if you find a nice 23 window samba let me know i might be interested (thats if you dont wreck it first) :p

good luck with the adventure. if you fancy being a jackaroo i have a good contact.

mattp

thats correct. thats getting someone to raise all the paperwork, ship, customs fees, Oz registration etc etc. having done a little bit of reading up on it its not cheap. may be different coming from oz, and with non-runners etc. should be able to give u a bit of a breakdown as i have a quote for my camper and for my BMW Z4.

i have heard a couple murmings of geelong not being the best, but looks quite nice. We're there for the initial month and will see how it goes before we sign up for a long term rental.

Trikky2 - thanks. following in your footsteps :) never know. if i love the industry, i may end up in the South of France :) at least then i wont need to ship the bus, i can drive it...again :) pics are inevitable :)

Johnny - i presume that when you say wreck it you mean customise it subtley like i have with my bus :D

Well done Nafe, if you need a home for the Porsche lump im willing to look after it for you

All the best with your trip mate - will miss seeing your bus and borrowing various tools off you at shows! 8)

Found a cool map of Aus for you to peruse! Not jealous one bit!
