I have been debating the removal of my heat exchangers and replacing them with J tubes, I remember back in my Beetle days someone telling me that J tubes can add 5BHP, is this true ? if so how exactly is this achived?

Thanks

Hi!

If you have a stock engine, i would leave it with heat, but a tuned/performance engine may well work better with a little free-er flowing exhaust system?

Personally, i love the heat, so keeping mine stock. You may well find you could gain a few bhp by giving everything a good right good check over, valve clearance, timing, dizzy operation, and mixture, and throttle adjustment, check brakes are not binding etc

Quite probably a change of exhaust system from stock would liberate a few horses, and still keep the heat all nice and toasty needed now the autumn is upon us! ;)

You can get large bore H.E, but think they are pricey, as you need the large bore systems too?

Cheers!

yeah I think you are right, i cant really see any bennifit from fitting J tubes, especialy as you will end up having gaps in the tinware, where the heat exchanger would normaly fill.

I know for a fact that one of mine is guenuine too, so I think i'll stick with them.

Thanks

Mark
