Hi

Had an interesting time today when I took my 1970 van out and then after 15 mins I heard a clunking and rattling sound.

After another 10 mins one of the wheels (think front offside) locked up and skidded the van to a stop (pretty scary but was at low speed)

Looking underneath one of the handbrake cables was broken and I had to nurse it home with lots of rubbing sounds.

Suspect brake shoe has come loose, any other ideas?

Cheers

I had similar last year - front brake locked up one side , freed it up by driving forward/reverse slightly then it happened again! Turned out the brake shoe detatched from the linning
But no other damage so not too bad in the end! :msn4:

Checking it out later today, will let you know what i find!

Fingers crossed all is okay for Ninove!

Ta

According to your info, you have a 71 bay. It would not be possible for a front brake shoe to cause a problem. :?:

Maybe he was reversing at the time and when he said "front" meant "pointing towards my destination"

Bet you never thought of that, eh!

But yeah, speedo.

It was a dislodged brake shoe on the rear offside...

The handbrake cable had got snagged on something during the problem and snapped.

Luckily i could find a replacement handbrake cable (last in stock). Glad both didn't break!

To clear up any confusion, my bus is a South African import and was made in 1970 as CKD in Germany and then shipped, put together and registered in 1971 in SA.

Thanks for all the info!
