Hi I'm running a standard 1600 with all new ignition but it's gone flat. The in line fuel filter was full of sludge so I fitted a new filter but it's still gutless. Do you guys think the carb could be full of dirt?

Thanks. Where is the jet?
Can I get to it without removing the carburettor?

The main jet is inside the float bowl, undo the bowl drain plug which is on the side near the coil, you can get to the jet through the plug hole, use a large flat blade screwdriver.

It's fiddly to get the jet through the hole though, so much easier to take the carb off as you can the turn it on its side to let the jet fall out, just use a new base gasket.

Does it idle ok? if not it would be worth removing the carb anyway to give it a good clean through.

It idles fine. It's just holding back.

Carb all cleaned out and running better but as soon as I put load on the engine it splutters any ideas?

Tonight I have checked the value clearance and miles out. Road tested still poor. Next was points still poor. I messed about with 2 x pipes on the card and timing and now it's better.
